The Michelin Guide’s review:
Two MICHELIN Keys · An exceptional stay
The medieval village of Eze, situated on a hill halfway between Nice and Monte Carlo, is one of the most impressive locations on the French Riviera, offering spectacular views of the Mediterranean. Let’s just say the place is high enough that you’d prefer to gaze at the waves rather than find yourself amidst the throngs of tourists lounging on the golden sands of the Riviera! Look out towards Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat and its glimpses of the Mediterranean and be enchanted!
The Château de la Chèvre d’Or was originally a private residence, but the owners bought most of the surrounding houses to consolidate them into a hotel. There are 45 rooms and suites scattered throughout the village, each quite distinct from the others. Some overlook the sea, others face the mountains, but all are elegant, with classic interiors and marble bathrooms.
The rooms are charming and comfortable, but the public spaces are even more impressive, benefiting from their geographical location. The pool is perched on the highest point of the terrace overlooking the hotel, and its panoramic views will make you forget about the beaches of Cannes. But the best is yet to come: the restaurant, at the highest point of the hotel, boasting two MICHELIN stars and offering a 270-degree view from Monte Carlo to Saint-Tropez.
It cannot be denied that the geographical location is essential, but when you add to that the charms of the historic town of Eze, absolutely perfect service, and 45 beautifully appointed rooms, the result is dangerously close to perfection. Let’s hope the tour operators never catch wind of it…
